Cleveland Mountaineering Club - About the Club

About the Club

The Cleveland Mountaineering Club (CMC) was founded in 1953 and is one of the biggest regional clubs in the North East of England.

The club covers a wide range of mountain interests. Rock climbers of all standards mix with walkers, skiers, mountain bikers and the occasional caver. All of these interests are covered in our extensive meet programme. In addition, there are many informal meets where a few members join together to enjoy climbing all over the world.

The club welcomes all mountaineers, walkers and rock climbers who share an interest in all forms of mountaineering.

Members are principally based in the Tees Valley and Darlington areas of the UK.

Early members worked hard to establish the Club with a hut at Patterdale in the Lake District and to develop interest in local climbing opportunities by publishing the Rock Climbing Guides to the North Yorkshire Moors.
