Climbing Meets

The Cleveland Mountaineering Club has a year-round programme of evening, day, weekend and holiday meets.

In summer, Tuesday evening meets are scheduled to local and not-so-local (Yorkshire Dales) crags. In winter they alternate between the climbing walls at Newton Aycliffe and Sunderland.

Each month, a day meet (usually a Sunday) and a weekend meet, to both local and more distant venues are programmed. Throughout the year, occasional holiday meets are also held; in recent years these have included Cornwall, Provence and Lundy.

Whilst the focus of most club meets is climbing and mountaineering, other groups of members arrange walking and biking activities.

As well as the published programme of meets, many trips are organised throughout the year to various areas of Britain, Europe and beyond by small groups of members on an ad hoc basis.

Social Activities

The club offers a range of social activities throughout the year.

In winter there is a programme of slideshows/talks on Thursday evenings at roughly fortnightly intervals held in the Jet Miners pub in Great Broughton. On the other thursday the club tends to meet in The Anchor in Guisborough.

On Tuesday nights in summer (i.e. British Summer Time) we meet at a pub that is nearby after an evening climbing on the local crags.

There is an annual Club Dinner in the Autumn — usually held in the Lake District.
