History

The Cleveland Mountaineering Club was founded in 1953 and is one of the biggest regional clubs in the North East of England. Early members worked hard to establish the Club with a hut at Patterdale in the Lake District and to develop interest in local climbing opportunities by publishing rock climbing guides to the North Yorkshire Moors. The club continues to be involved with the development of local climbing; a new generation of younger members is actively seeking out new routes and new crags on the North York Moors.

The position of club archivist is currently vacant and the club committee would like to ensure that records of the club’s history are maintained and updated, including the writing of a more comprehensive history for this web page. If you are interested in being involved with this please contact the club committee.
