Tuesday Evening Climbing Meets

The club meets every Tuesday evening. In the summer these meets are held at local crags in the North York Moors and surrounding areas. In the winter meets are arranged at local indoor climbing walls.

The Tuesday evening meets are becoming more and more popular as the club’s membership grows and they are a fantastic opportunity for new and existing members to interact and enjoy their climbing together.

The 2024 meets calendar has the dates and locations of our meets.

The Macmillan Academy Climbing Wall

The club has exclusive use of the Macmillan Academy Climbing Wall, Stockton Road, Middlesbrough, every Thursday evening from 6pm until 9pm. The cost is £6 per person.

Please note, the Macmillan wall arrangement is only available to CMC members and registered prospective members.

Rock Antics

The Rock Antics Indoor Bouldering Wall in Warelands Way, Middlesbrough, is used regularly by various CMC members

ROF 59

Many Club members visit ROF on a Tuesday evening during the winter season.

There is a fantastic selection of routes for all abilities and ROF provides a great venue to keep fitness and agility levels up whilst we’re all dreaming of being outside again.

CMC members also benefit from a discount at ROF.

Other Meets

In addition to the weekday evening activities the Club publishes an annual programme of climbing meets, which may be for a day, a weekend or longer. Whether it’s sea cliffs, bolt-clipping, mountain routes or winter climbing there should be something to suit most tastes.

Members often organise their own climbing trips on an ad-hoc basis too.

The club holds two running events each year: The Roseberry Race and The Fell Race. The Roseberry race takes place in spring and involves a short but steep run up and down local landmark Roseberry Topping – a 320m hill. The Fell Race, held in the autumn, follows a circuit of approximately 6 miles taking in Captain Cook’s Monument and the top of Roseberry Topping (a shorter circuit can be done by missing out Roseberry Topping).

In recent years the club has also organised meets for orienteering, mountain biking, walking and skiing.

Social Events

The main social event of the year is The Annual Dinner; usually held in November.

This involves a guest speaker, a speech by the president and some annual awards. Club members will always adjourn to the pub every Tuesday night after climbing and twice a year the club enjoys pie & peas after the first and last outdoor climbs.

The Guide Book Library

The club owns a collection of climbing guide books (currently held by Stu Bradley), which may be borrowed by members. A list of guide books in the collection is available to view on the Documents and Policies page of this website.
