The Chamois Mountaineering Centre

The Cleveland Mountaineering Club has a reciprocal arrangement with the Chamois Mountaineering Club. This was drawn up in 1983 and allows the two Clubs to use each other’s Huts.

The Chamois Mountaineering Centre is based in Ceunant, LL55 4SA, near Llanberis, North Wales and is a fantastic base for accessing all that Eryri (Snowdonia) and Anglesey have to offer. It provides comfortable self-catering accommodation, with small dormitories. A sleeping bag and pillow need to be taken.

Up to 4 CMC members (or their guests) are permitted to use the “Chamois” at any one time (other than Chamois Club Maintenance Meets). The members’ end and Dormitory 9 must be used, to avoid the expense of utilising the whole building. Entry is by one of a number of keys held by the CMC, through the door at the carpark end of the building. Please note that camping and sleeping in vans is not permitted.

The CMC has an appointed key-holder and coordinator with the Chamois Club, to ensure the smooth running of this much valued arrangement. Currently (2024), this position is held by Mike Conlon mike.conlon@ntlworld.com 07779 217087, who will happily provide further information, availability, etc.

It is important to sign-in immediately on arrival, the register will be found in the main staircase lobby. Fees as of March 2024 are CMC members £6/night, guests £15/night. Please make BACS transfer to Chamois Mountaineering Club Ltd, 60-83-01, 56128965. Please also send confirmation of payment to the Chamois Bookings Secretary on cmc.bookings@chamois.org.uk and the Chamois Treasurer on treasurer@chamois.org.uk indicating numbers and dates of stay.
